On September 23 2009, the world of poker tournaments was changed forever with the introduction of the first Iron Man Poker Tournament. As one of the showcase events at the Commerce Casino Commerce Holdem Series, the Iron Man poker tournament made a giant introduction and promises to become one of the most sought after championship events by professional players.

This initial $1600 event promised to test the skills and endurance of competitors in a way that's never been seen before, with an attempt to change the face of poker tournaments and take a massive step away from the way that tournaments have traditionally been played. The Iron Man poker tournament aimed to do just what it says - find and crown the player with the greatest stamina, courage, strength, and skill. The search was on for one poker player who showed the greatest combination of these qualities and skills.

To fully test the strength, skill, and endurance of the winner, the The Iron Man Poker Turnament ran with:

No scheduled breaks.
No dinner hour break
Three meals served during play.
No clock stopping until the champion won through
Final nine only paid, with  50% of the tournament pot going to the winner.
No cash deals allowed among finalists

Play started with 10,000 chips at 25-50 blinds and 60 minute intervals, with the antes not kicking in until the 6th level, at which the blinds were still just 100-200.
